If you enjoyed reading Crossing Live, there’s more background to the story on this Crossing Live Extras page.

Cassette tape with loose tape

Crossing Live is set in Brisbane in 1990. Queensland’s capital city has changed a lot in the last 25 years, but most of the locations referred to in the novel are still pretty much as they were in Roland’s day. During a visit in 2017, I took photos of major locations. There’s more about them in my post on location scouting for Crossing Live.

Daily life in 1990 was vastly different to the today’s always on, interconnected lifestyle. When I was writing the Crossing Live story, I kept a list of the differences. Prompted by the recent news that cassette tapes are making a come back, I published a list of 10 ways life in 1990 was different.

In Crossing Live, Roland Kendall is responsible for running a viewer treasure hunt competition at the television station he works for. Roland isn’t the first person to run a competition like this. In Roland Kendall’s buried treasure I’ve described a few other competitions where the gold prize has been hidden underground.

I’ve also added a post describing Roland’s Queenslander-style house in more detail. You can also read part of the quarry scene from Crossing Live here.
